Cohen, Sandy. "Women Gain Prominece in Video Game World." USA Today. 05/29/2006. 11 Sep 2007 http:// www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/
2006-05-29-female-videogamers_x.html.
This article discusses the benefits of more women joining the gaming industry. This article has several quotes from different sources that can make this a valuable for quotes. It also gives a small history of women in gaming. It has a few quotes from highly placed people in the industry (all men, interestingly enough) that show they are aware there’s an issue and would like to take steps to change things.
Terdiman, Daniel. "Getting Girl in the Game." ZD Net. October 27, 2005. 11 Sep 2007 http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040-5916083.html.
This article describes a conference about game development and specifically talks about how more women need to be in the development stages to influence more games. It discusses some of the trials women face as they try to gain respect in the “boy’s club” known as video gaming. It also mentions why some women with degree suited for the gaming industry may chose to go into a different tech field, like web design.
Heard, Tim. "Tech Republic." www.techrepublic.com. March 13 2002. 11 Sep 2007 http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878-1039163.html.
This article is actually a write in question from a reader but the answer helps demonstrate something that often happens in the work force-the woman’s job description is “information systems officer” but she’s been assigned many secretarial duties, including answer the phone. People are sometimes assigned duties based on the stereotypes of their gender rather than their qualifications.
Clay, Michelle. "On Being a Girl in the Games Industry." Women Gamers. 11 Sep 2007 http://www.womengamers.com/articles/girlingames.php.
This site is an article written by a female in the gaming industry who discusses the advantages and disadvantages of being female in a predominantly male industry. It will obviously be useful to quote not just men talking about the lack of female talent but to have the actual view point of a woman in that position.
Mitchell, Dave. "The Lady Gamers." Game Spot, September 01, 2002. 10 Sep 2007 http://www.gamespot.com/gamespot/features/all/gamespotting/090102/8.html;.
This article is the pondering of Dave Mitchell on why there are not more "Lady Gamers". It raises questions regarding the development and marketing of games and even that most games geared to females are for younger girls. It is five years old but the questions he asks then are still relevant now.

Jong, Phillip. "Roberta Williams." Adventure Gaming Classic. 25 January 2007. 10 Sep 2007 http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,60/http://www.adventureclassicgaming.com/index.php/site/interviews/198/;.
Roberta Williams is important as she is one of the more successful developers of all time. She started in 1980 and created many successful game series. She used animation and, when it was popular, interactive-movies. She is especially known for intriguing story lines and fun puzzles that attracted gamers of both genders. Most of her games were family friendly and could played by people of most ages. This proves that games don't have to have sex to sell (although many of her games did have sexual elements to them). This site is an interview with Roberta.

Kelly, Kevin. "Getting Girls into Gaming:Desgining and Marketing Games for Female Players." March 21 2007. 11 Sep 2007 http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/21/sxsw-getting-girls-into-the-game-designing-and-marketing-games/.
This site brings up a good point that narrowing down what a female gamer wants, and providing it to gain her business, is difficult because of the range of what they want. A 12-year old girl may want a Barbie-themed game but more than likely, a 26-year old career woman will not. It brings up the point that women make up 42% of online gamers when applied to game sites that include puzzle games likes Sudoku and Bejeweled.
Brathwaite , Brenda. "Sex in Video Games Conference: Organizer Brenda Brathwaite's Opening Keynote ." Gamasutra. 11 Sep 2007 http://gamasutra.com/features/20060613/reynolds_01.shtml.
This is a keynote speech from a female game developer who has been in the business for many decades. She discusses mostly the role of sexual content in video games but also discusses such games that were marketed specifically for women, such as the Spice game series. The issue that must be explored more with this is were any women involved in developing such a game. Did they try to get a woman’s opinion or assume “we know what women want”?
"Want to design video games? Go to college and hit the books." The Daily News Online. 05 Dec 2005. 12 Sep 2007 http://www.tdn.com/articles/2005/12/05/this_day/news03.txt.
This site discusses some of the requirements to get into the gaming field, whether a person is male or female. It discusses the importance of schooling in getting ahead in this sort of career. Perhaps the problem with the gaming industry’s bias begins further back, in school. If more school programs, for children and adults, were made available, it would be seen more as a career choice and more women would be interested in it.
"Turning High-School Girls into DigiGirlz." Microsoft. August 21, 2004. 12 Sep 2007 http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2004/aug04/08-23digigirlz.mspx.
This article by Microsoft discusses their camp that introduces younger girls to careers in technology. Many girls grow up not even knowing such jobs exist and thus don’t begin to prepare themselves for such a job or even dream of one. As more younger girls are introduced to such careers, they will grow into young women who may be interested in such careers and the problem will take care of itself.

Brody, Jane. “Children, Media and Sex: A Big Book of Blank Pages.” New York Times.
(Jan 31, 2005). Sept 17, 2007. [http://www.commercialexploitation.org/news/childrenmediasex.htm]
Adolescents are defiantly affected, almost always negatively, by sexual references in the media. Even more astonishing than what they are watching, is the fact that, when it comes down to it, no one is really monitoring what they see.

Brown, Jane D. “Mass Media Influences on Sexuality”. Journal of Sex Research. (Feb 22,
2002). Sept 16, 2007. [http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m2372/is_1_39/ai_87080439/pg_4]
High school students who watch more “adult” television shows, such as soap operas are more likely to believe that nonmarital sexually activity is acceptable. More so, teens who view even more of these “adult” shows are likely to view being a virgin as negative.

Brown, Jane D., Keller, Sarah N. “Can The Mass Media Be Healthy Sex Educators?”
Family Planning Perspectives. Volume 32. (September/October, 2000.) Sept. 16
2007. [http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/3225500.html]
Young people usually spend between six and seven hours a day with some form of mass media. It can be concluded from this, that what the media has to say, will in some way have an influence. This article also argues that the media could, if the messages came across the proper way, could be a healthy form of sexual education.

Doheny, Kathleen. :Mass Media May Prompt Kids to Try Sex: Study.” (April 3, 2006).
Sept 16, 2007. [http://sexualhealth.e-healthsource.com/?p=news1&id=531862]
According to this article, exposure to sexual content in all types of mass media (tv, music, magazines, etc.) makes white teens more likely to engage in sexual activity earlier in life.

Grant, Christina. “Teens, Sex and the Media: Is there a Connection?” (June 2003). Sept.
16, 2007. [http://www.pulsus.com/Paeds/08_05/gran_ed.htm]
With the increasing sexual content in the media (televison, radio, internet, music videos etc.), it is a growing concern that it may have an effect on young peoples sexual attitudes and behaviors.

Preston, Jaqueline. “Over Exposed? Teens, Sex and Mass Media.” Health Leader: An
Online Wellness Magazine. (Feb. 18, 2005). Sept 16, 2007. [http://www.healthleader.uthouston.edu/archive/Children_Teens/2005/overexposed-0218.html]
This article states than approximately two-thirds of all televison shows contain sexual content. This is no longer limited to programs that are aimed towards adults, such as soap operas. Now, however more sexual contents can be found in family sitcoms, ads and even cartoons.

“Sexually in the Mass Media: How to View the Media Critically.” Sept 17, 2007.
On average, most teenagers spend more time in front of the tv than in school or with their parents. With this kind of exposure it is impossible for the media to have zero effect on youth. Keeping this in mind, sex on tv has been much more frequent and explicit over the years.

“Sexuality, Contraception and the Media.” Pediatrics. Vol 107. (Jan 2001). Sept.
17, 2007. [http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/pediatrics;107/1/191]
Sexual intercourse at an early age is becoming an increasing problem with American teens. While it is certain that there are many factors which lead to this, the media is believed to play a significant role.

“Study: High Media Exposure Leads to Early Sexual Activity”. (April, 4 2006). Sept. 16,
2007. [http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/04/media_kids_sex.html]
Teens that are more exposed to sexual content (through media) between the ages of 12-14 are two times more likely to engage in sexual intercourse between the ages of 14-16 than those who were mot exposed.

“Teens and Sex: The Role of Popular TV.” (July, 2001). Sept 16, 2007.
According to a survey done, 61% of kids confirmed that they got “a lot” of information about sex, sexuality and sexual health from entertainment media. Lots of teens between the ages of 12-17 said that they get ideas from TV and movies about how to talk to their partners about sexual issues.

Annotated Bibliography

Crysta, Ellie.”crystalinks”. Online. 11 Sept.2007. 12 Sept. 2007 http://crystalinks.com/egyptafterlife.html.
I want to explore the actions that ancient people took to mummify themselves! This site has a huge amount of information on the steps that ancient civilizations took to mummify their deceased. There are a lot of pictures on the different tombs, and caskets used by these people. She goes into detail on the various procedures the ancient people would go through to come to the final product. These coffins were put into bigger coffins and so on.
“Egypt”. Wikipedia. Wikipedia Online. 11 Sept. 2007. 12 Sept. 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wik/Egypt.
This site has a lot of information on its homepage, so I know it’s a trusting website. There are a variety of links to ancient texts, info on ancient civilizations, and cultures of the ancient times. I definitely plan on using this as a reference for my project.
Miller, Max. “Unidentified Mummies Gallery”. Online. 1998. 12 Sept 2007. http://anubis4_2000.tripod.com/mummypages1/introduction.htm.
Miller goes on to show how many bodies were interrupted in their resting place. Here I will be able to go further into my research on how disturbing the resting place of the deceased is uncalled for. There are many burials that are abused by archeologists and this site shows the alarming number of those who have been disrespected by these archeologists.
Miller, William. “Tomb Robbers!” Reeves, Nicholas. Thomes and Hudson. 1990. 12 Sept. 2007 http://anubis4_2000.tripod.com/subpages1/robbers.htm.

It has an extensive page on grave robbers of ancient times. It goes into detail on the reasons for ancient tomb robbers, their culture and religious beliefs.
Mummies 101. NOVA. Sept 1996. Online. 12 Sept 2007 http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/chinamum/mummies101.html.
This site dives into the information behind the art of mummification. This is vital in my research because to understand why so much is abused by these trespassers, you must know about how they would preserve these bodies so well. Here the art of removing organs is explained and also the art of making sure that no bacteria and air was to infiltrate these mummies was perfected.
O’Brien, Alexandra. “Death in Ancient Egypt”. Online. 10 Aug 1999. 12 Sept. 2007 http://oi.uchicago.edu/01/DEPT/RA/ABZU/DEATH.HTML.
O’Brien goes into detail on the various things that the Egyptians would bring into there burial sites for the afterlife. Also she goes into detail on the meanings of the various hieroglyphs on the walls, and the pictures of animals, on the coffins. I will use this information to create and impact on how important these tombs were to these people. This will go further in making an impact on the reader to have a since of understanding on how important all this was to them.
Parsons, "Tomb-Robbery." InterCity Oz Inc. 1999. Intercity Oz Inc. 12 Sept 2007 http://toureqypt.net/featurestoriew.

Here I was able to gather information on all the different things that ancient Egyptians would keep in there tombs. So much is unknown still about these mysterious people, and this site dives rite into the tombs of these ancient people. It has proven to be a great impact for my research.
Thinkquest.org. Online. 15 Aug 2005. 12 Sept 2007http://library.Thinkquest.org/16665/burial.htm.
I like this site because it was trying to compare different culture’s beliefs on burial and death. Here they go into detail on about a dozen different country’s customs in: Death in Burial and beliefs.
World Mummies. Online. 16 July 2007. 12 Sept 2007 http://www.mummytombs.com/mummylocator/group/inka.htm.
This resource gives some outlook on some more up to date burials. Some 500 years ago, evidence of a civilization high up in the mountains. This site goes into depth on meanings behind cave drawings. There is an abundance of information on the reasons behind why so much is not known about the Inka’s for instance, due to grave robbing, and destruction of burial sites because of looters, and robbers.
