“According to a Financial Times report, consumers have purchased 9 million Wii consoles, 8.9 million Xbox 360 consoles, and 3.7 million PlayStation 3 consoles.” (Androvich p.1).
“At its pre-TGS press event in Japan today, Microsoft showed off new colors for its Xbox 360 controllers: Black (to coincide with the Elite SKU), Pink, and Blue. It also announced that the chat pad, modified to include a few buttons for Japanese Kana and Kanji alphabets, will soon be available in Japan.” (Kennedy, p.1).

“While Sony has not stated anything official, Japanese analysts are already full of guesses on where the money could be funneled. Mitsuhiro Osawa says sales will likely support Sony's electronics and gaming divisions, specifically suggesting a PlayStation 3 price cut is a more distinct possibility afterward.” (Kollar, p.1).

“Daniel DeMatteo, COO of GameStop, says that he's expecting the casual market to change the way they do business. No, it doesn't mean they'll give their employees more than minimum wage or stop customer service shenanigans, but it does mean they'll have sections in GameStop stores designed to help the casual player. For example, one section will focus on rhythm titles and another on family-friendly titles that'll make shopping easier for the non-typical GameStop shopper demographic.” (Sliwinksi, p.1).
“When Halo 2 was released in November 2004, Microsoft made much of the fact it generated over $125 million in 24 hours--making it one of the biggest entertainment product launches of all time. With Halo 3's release just two weeks away, the software giant is pulling out all the stops to promote and distribute the Xbox 360 exclusive.” (Tor, p.1).
"In the same way film schools changed Hollywood," Jenkins adds, "game studies will change the games industry." http://www.tdn.com/articles/2005/12/05/this_day/news03.txt
"What constitutes a female gamer?" Jame Pinckard said, "Women aren't just this monolithic block of 'gamers', they all want different types of games. Just because a Barbie video is made for a 12 year old girl, doesn't mean a 26 year woman has to play it." http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/21/sxsw-getting-girls-into-the-game-designing-and-marketing-games
The choice of a female protagonist was not a deliberate ploy to garner female computer game players. Rather, the story we wished to tell felt better with a female protagonist. (Interview with Roberta Williams ) http://www.adventureclassicgaming.com/index.php/site/interviews/127/
What can the industry do to improve the situation? Like I said before, I'm not going to pretend to know what women want, but I do have general ideas about the direction the industry should be looking in. First off, how about some more good female protagonists? I've read conflicting reports on whether or not female players actually prefer to control female video game characters, but I'm sure having a female lead certainly wouldn't hurt a game's chances with female audiences.

Rose went back in time, saying that hip-hop was the first time a genre had thick descriptions of everyday life.
"Hip-hop does it in an eloquent way when it does it well," she said. "It was remarkable in a time where songs were restricted on playing time and how deep they were."
When hip-hop first came onto the scene battling disco, R&B and soul, and rock 'n' roll, it was reduced to a "fad" of the moment. Now over three decades later, the hip-hop billion-dollar industry has entered mainstream success proving its critics wrong and making advertisers take a second look. The emergence of the culture didn't start with "rap," however, it was influenced by graffiti art, break dancing, and Jamaican "toasting."
"Hip-hop is the voice of this generation. Even if you didn't grow up in the Bronx in the '70s, hip-hop is there for you. It has become a powerful force. Hip-hop binds all of these people, all of these nationalities, all over the world together." —DJ Kool Herc, from the Introduction

We’re talking about the future here. I have no doubt whatsoever that intelligent, informed use of steroids, combined with human growth hormone, will one day be so accepted that everybody will be doing it. Steroid use will be more common than Botox is now. Every baseball player and pro athlete will be using at least low levels of steroids. As a result, baseball and other sports will be more exciting and entertaining. Human life will be improved, too. We will live longer and better. And maybe we’ll love longer and better, too.
